Readex Digital Institute
Exploring the Digital Universe
October 5-8, 2005

Keynote speaker James G. Neal, Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian at Columbia University, offered participants a challenging presentation on the shifting vision of the academic library, entitled "The Winter of Our Discontent: Anxiety, Disruption and Chaos Breed Life.” Neal provided librarians with clear strategies for moving from today’s "anxiety, disruption and chaos" to the "the library of the future."

Other presenters included Mark Phillips, University of North Texas; Terry Reese, Oregon State University; Andrew Mink, University of Virginia; Chris Bourg, Stanford University; Steven F. Daniel, Readex; Patrick McGlamery, University of Connecticut; Steven Rhind-Tutt, Alexander Street Press; Mark Sandler, University of Michigan; and Selene T. Dalecky, U.S. Government Printing Office.

According to Meg Meiman, Reference and Instructional Librarian at American University in Washington, D.C., who served as moderator: "This Readex Digital Institute provided a forum for thought-provoking presentations and discussions about digitization, libraries’ roles in these efforts and the future of the library profession as it increasingly recruits and incorporates the talents of 'rogue professionals.'"
